OpenOffice

OpenOffice is a free and open source office application suite available for a number of different operating systems, It supports open document standard (.odt, .ods, etc..) as well as Microsoft Office 1997-2003 formats.

OpenOffice is primarily sponsored by Sun Microsystems, it aims to compete with Microsoft Office and emulate its look and feel where suitable. It can read and write most of the file formats found in Microsoft Office.

It Includes the following components and they are similar to Microsoft office applications which makes easier for most of the users.

	Writer	A Word Processor Offering a comparable range of functions and tools. It also has a builtin Pdf Converter.
	Calc	A spreadsheet similar to Microsoft Excel with a roughly equivalent range of features. Calc provides a number of features not present in Excel, including a system which automatically defines series for graphing, based on the layout of the user’s data.
	Impress	A presentation program similar to Microsoft PowerPoint. It can export presentations to Adobe Flash (SWF) files allowing them to be played on any computer with the Flash player installed. It also includes the ability to create PDF files
	Base	A database program similar to Microsoft Access. Base allows the creation and manipulation of databases, and the building of forms and reports to provide easy access to data for end-users.
	Draw	A vector graphics editor comparable in features to early versions of CorelDRAW
	Maths	A tool for creating and editing mathematical formulae, similar to Microsoft Equation Editor.

Restore dekstop icons to their transparent state

If you happen to find that the desktop icons are no longer transparent and their labels have colored background them, try the following to get  rid of it and give your desktop a smoother look.

1. Go to System properites(control panel-> System)

2. Then click ADVANCED tab

3. Click on the SETTINGS button located within PERFORMANCE section.

4. In the performance option window Select ADJUST FOR BEST APPEARANCE.

5. Clik OK

2.Point to arrange icon by

3.Uncheck LOCK WEB ITEMS ON DESKTOP
